This fund provides scholarships to doctoral students in the Department of Learning and Instruction.
William Eller was a professor emeritus at UB’s Graduate School of Education, and one of the world's most accomplished researchers in the field of reading instruction.
Shortly after he passed away in 1993, after serving the university for 30 years, Mrs. Betty J. Eller and Kathryn S. Rieder established this fund in his memory. The fund provides a scholarship to an outstanding doctoral student at UB’s Department of Learning and Instruction, within the Graduate School of Education. Preference for the scholarship is given to students who intend to pursue, or are pursuing, a program in reading instruction.
Eller’s accomplishments included election to the Reading Hall of Fame by the International Reading Assocation, establishing the reading education program at UB, and developing a wealth of instructional materials for teachers.
UB’s Graduate School of Education is committed to big ideas, to research that enhances education, and to the talented students and faculty who get us there. From producing innovative solutions to education’s most challenging problems to enhancing teacher training and preparation, we’re leading the charge for the future of education right here at UB. Now, your support is the next step as we look to lead the way to the future of education—and change our world.
