Investing in UB

Can I specify how my gift will be used?

Yes. When you give to UB, you can designate your gift for a specific school, scholarship or program, or provide it as unrestricted funds. You decide how to make a difference.

Do small gifts really make a difference?

Yes! Every gift, no matter the dollar amount, is important. Last year, gifts of $100 or less added up to nearly $500,000 in support to UB.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. Your gift is 100% tax deductible.

Is my gift confidential?

Rest assured that all information about UB donors is handled with respect and confidentiality to the extent provided by the law.

If I have matching dollars, how do I use them?

On the giving form, please select the option for “Employer Matching Funds.” If you are an employer interested in matching your employees’ gifts, please contact:

Can I invest through my will or estate plan?

UB faculty and staff can help the campaign succeed by sharing news about UB and following us on social media. Faculty and staff may also choose to support UB by making a gift to their schools, their units or to the UB Fund. Gifts from faculty and staff show support starts right here.

What is the campaign goal?

Our goal is to raise $650 million.

Why is this campaign needed now?

UB is already one of the world’s leading universities. Philanthropy will make us even greater by allowing us to provide more scholarships, more support for faculty and more world-changing initiatives. Given everything that is happening at UB and throughout the Buffalo-Niagara region, we believe that right now is the perfect time for us to be bold and take this next step together.

What is the campaign timeframe?

We started counting gifts for the campaign on July 1, 2013. The campaign formally launched on April 30, 2018.

When was UB's last campaign?

UB’s last comprehensive campaign was the Generation to Generation Campaign, which concluded in 2003 and raised nearly $300 million. Since then, UB has started (and in some cases concluded) several initiative-based campaigns, including the Time is Now Campaign for the School of Law, the Build the Vision Campaign for the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and building campaigns for the schools of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

How do I become a member of the UB Alumni Association?

If you are a graduate of the University at Buffalo, you already are a member! As of October 2015, the UB Alumni Association no longer requires membership dues. This no-fee membership program allows the Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Engagement to better serve all of our alumni worldwide.

I need an official transcript from UB. How do I get one?

Does the UB Alumni Association offer student scholarships?

Yes, the UBAA offers three scholarships: The Willie R. Evans UBAA Legacy Scholarship, the J. Scott Fleming Student-to-Student Scholarship and the UBAA Alumnae Scholarship. Learn more about scholarships.

How do I keep my UBMail after I graduate?

Did you graduate in May 2014 or later?
You automatically keep your UBMail; your account will remain active as long as you log in to your UBMail at least once every 90 days. If you do not log in at least once every 90 days, your UBMail will be deactivated. You may opt-in again using this form to regain access to UBMail at any time.

  • If you forward your UBMail to another service, you still must log in to your UBMail for it to remain active. Log in here.
  • If you do not want to keep your UBMail and don't want to wait 90 days for automatic deactivation, you may opt-out using this form.
  • If you did not meet the criteria for UB graduation, your UBMail will deactivate.

Did you graduate between January 1998 and February 2014?
To activate your UBMail powered by Google, you’ll need to opt-in here. If you are an alumnus employed by UB or a current student, you will simply continue using your UBmail.

Did you graduate before 1998 and do you already have a UBITName?
You can opt in or reactivate UBMail by using this form. If you don’t remember your UBMail password, learn how to reset it. Faculty and staff are not eligible for UBMail Powered by Google, even if they are alumni.

Did you work for UB?
UB employees who are leaving the university and who are also alumni may opt-in to keep their UBMail. Once your faculty or staff status has been terminated, consult your support staff to have your mailbox converted to UBMail Powered by Google.

How do I find upcoming events?

Visit the events page to see all of the upcoming events around the world and on campus. We'd love to see you!

How do I share news about a recent accomplishment with UB alumni?

If you are a UB alumnus and the news is about you, you may post the information as a class note on UB Connect or send it to us using one of the methods listed above. If you are submitting a news release on behalf of a UB alumnus (for example, you represent the company a UB alumnus works for), you may email it and the note will be considered for publication in the alumni magazine.

How do I submit a class note?

There are a number of ways for alumni to submit class notes and digital photos.

I'm not receiving correspondence or email from UB. How do I change this?

Our records may indicate that you requested not to receive any communication from UB, or we may have outdated contact information for you. If you would like to start receiving information from UB, contact us. When you do, you also can register on UB Connect, the online community exclusively for UB alumni.

How do I update my contact information with UB?

Whenever you have a change to your contact information (home or email address, job title, phone number, work address), you can make updates through UB Connect, the online community exclusively for UB alumni. All you have to do is register, find your profile and make your updates. Or contact us and we will be happy to update your record for you.

I do not wish to receive any communication from UB. How do I do this?

Contact the Office of Alumni Engagement and we will update your record. There may be a brief delay before your request goes into effect; you may continue to receive communication for several weeks. Please note that some UB entities may still send you communication if they do not utilize the Office of Alumni Engagement database.

How do I register on UB Connect if I can’t find my name in the search results?

Search for your name using last name and first initial only. If your name has changed since you graduated, try searching by your student last name. If you still have trouble, contact us.
