Answers to the most common questions parents ask the Office of Admissions.
The first step to enroll is to pay the $150 enrollment/tuition deposit. Your student can do so by visiting the Steps to Enroll page on the Office of Admissions website.
After submitting the enrollment/tuition deposit your student will need to complete the Advisement and Orientation form (available April 1 on the New to UB website). Students will select an Orientation session within this form.
Approximately five days after acceptance your student will receive an email containing the assigned UBITName and one-time password to the email used when applying (please have your student also check the spam folder for this message). Additional information and assistance with activating the account can be found on our UBIT website.
All UB communication and information, including bills and grades, are sent directly to your student. We encourage you to communicate with your student to receive this information and help your student continue to take responsibility for these important matters. This policy is in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Health insurance is mandatory for international students/scholars, students participating in study abroad programming and intercollegiate (domestic and international) athletes. Please visit the Student Guide for additional information on health insurance requirements.
To be considered for financial aid at UB, including grants, loans, work-study and some scholarships, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year. Undergraduate residents of New York State should complete a NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application after completing the FAFSA application to determine if eligible for a TAP Grant. Visit our Financial Aid website for additional information.
After students activate the UBIT account the financial aid package will be able to be viewed through the HUB Student Center under the Financial Aid tile. Students can view the instructions for how to view, accept or decline aid on the Financial Aid website.
UB administers more than $430 million in scholarships and financial aid each year and offers the most valuable merit scholarships in the SUNY system. For additional details view our Scholarships and Funding Opportunities page. Newly accepted students are also encouraged to review our opportunities available through our University at Buffalo Scholarship Portal and complete a general application (available to new admits in January for the fall semester).

Students may pay the fall semester's eBill statement amount in full by the statement due date or enroll in a payment plan. Payment plans are available for both the fall and spring terms. If you're interested in a payment plan, you or your student must enroll at the beginning of each term. Please note: Students are not automatically enrolled for the following semester. The payment plan is not a loan program, and the service is provided interest-free. For additional information, please visit the Student Accounts website.

Welcome Weekend is the official kick-off to the fall semester for new students. During Welcome Weekend, new students prepare for academics at UB, explore UB resources and connect with other students.
Current and future academic calendars can be found on the Office of Registrar website.
It’s an exciting time for you and your student. As your student completes the enrollment process, UB will begin to send emails from various offices, including from the orientation staff, advisors, Student Accounts and the housing office and more. These offices will communicate directly to students primarily via their UB email, so remind your student to check at least twice a week and respond promptly to any action items. Setting aside time with your student to do this weekly is a great practice.
