  • Namesake

    Burt P. Flickinger Jr.

Burt P. Flickinger Jr. (1926-1997) was a dedicated friend of the University and a leading citizen of our region. As a businessman and a community leader, Flickinger "brought the world to Buffalo," devoting his time, energy, and effort to strengthen UB and Western New York.

As a native of Buffalo, Mr. Flickinger was a member of the Board of Trustees of the UB Foundation and was actively affiliated with more than 20 local organizations over the course of his life, in which he extended tremendous energy and wisdom in service to the community. He also helped bring to Buffalo the 1993 World University Games. Largely as a result of his extraordinary effort and determination, the region now has several new athletic facilities.

Flickinger's many years of leadership and service to UB were recognized by several awards: In 1989, he received a SUNY Distinguished Citizen Award; in 1988 he was named Niagara Frontier Executive of the Year by UB's School of Management; and in 1994 UB conferred upon him the SUNY honorary degree of Doctor of Human Letters in recognition of his dedication and generosity of spirit.
