We recognize the great work that the employees of the University at Buffalo Police Department have performed during the second quarter of 2021.
On June 29th, 2021, dispatch received a call reporting a missing seven year old child. All available UPD personnel responded immediately. Within minutes, six patrol personnel were dispatched and responded, surveillance camera systems were checked, surrounding area police departments were alerted, and the complainant was interviewed for useful information. Within seven minutes of UPD receiving the initial call, officers safely located the child in another building across campus from where he was last seen.
For their quick and effective response to this potentially tragic incident, it is my pleasure to recognize all UB Police personnel who assisted in the safe return of this child.
Honorable mention also goes to Officers Alexandra Ince, Anthony Vinci, Dale Zulawski, and Lieutenant Will who responded to a call on April 14th, 2021, involving a visibly distraught individual laying on the pavement outside Abbott Library. Responding officers learned that the man had a history of mental illness and past violence towards first responders and medical personnel. Officer Ince worked to keep the man calm and cooperative by reassuring him and continuously attempting to engage in conversation. Ultimately, the man voluntarily walked to the responding ambulance and he was taken safely to the hospital for evaluation without further incident.
