With quick ideation, creativity, and an ability to hyperfocus on passion projects, it is no wonder there are a lot of graduate students with ADHD. We may do well with the structure of coursework, but when we enter the more loosely structured and isolated stages of the PhD process, our challenges with focus, organization and time management can throw us for a loop! We may struggle, but we devise ingenious coping strategies along the way.

Let’s leverage our strengths and share our strategies so that we can arrive triumphantly at the finish line together!

· Break goals into manageable tasks.

· Create timelines and accountability structures.

· Overcome mental exhaustion and task paralysis.

· Avoid tangents and rabbit holes.

· Thrive in supportive community.

Five-Day Writing Retreat- January 5 - 9th 2026!

Start the New Year with a burst of progress!  The Center for Excellence in Writing will host a Five-day Writing Retreat January 5 through 9 from 10am – 4pm daily.  While the retreat is aimed at dissertators, any member of the UB community working on a major writing project is welcome.  Each day is framed with goal sharing (checking in and out) and light topical discussions of community interest, but the majority of the day is devoted to individual work on your project.  The retreat is hybrid - you can participate in-person (17 Norton) or virtually via Zoom.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Register here.  Questions?  Email writing@buffalo.edu
