BUFFALO, N.Y. – Amanda B. Hassinger, MD, clinical associate professor of pediatrics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, and medical director of the UBMD Pediatrics Sleep Center, has been named to the Pediatric Gold Standard Panel of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s Sleep ISR program.
Hassinger was named to the five-member panel out of an international pool of thousands of sleep providers.
“For physicians who diagnose and treat sleep disorders in children, being named to the Pediatric Gold Standard Panel of the AASM is one of the field’s most prestigious achievements,” says Benny L. Joyner, MD, A. Conger Goodyear Professor and Chair of Pediatrics in the Jacobs School, president and CEO of UBMD Pediatrics and pediatrician-in-chief at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.
“Congratulations to Dr. Hassinger on this extremely well-deserved recognition,” he says. “This puts her in a position where she is not only working closely with the other top pediatric sleep providers but where she also has an opportunity to shape education for sleep providers -- and the care they provide families -- both now and in the future.”
He adds that this also gives providers at the UBMD Pediatrics Sleep Center an international level of recognition in AASM, which is one of the highest regarded organizations in the sleep medicine field.
The Pediatric Gold Standard Panel contributes to the AASM Sleep ISR program, an online education and benchmarking platform designed to help sleep technologists and sleep centers evaluate and maintain inter-scorer reliability in scoring sleep studies. Sleep study scoring is key to the diagnosis of sleep disorders; it’s the review of the raw data that a sleep study generates.
Since completing a fellowship in sleep medicine, Hassinger, a Jacobs School alumna, has worked to establish the UBMD Pediatrics Sleep Lab, the only pediatric-dedicated Sleep Medicine Center in Western New York. Since opening in 2020, it has doubled in numbers of patients seen and expanded to two locations and achieved AASM accreditation. Hassinger is also board certified in pediatric critical care and worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at GCH Buffalo.
