BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo School of Management’s social impact and community engagement have again been internationally recognized by the Positive Impact Rating for Business Schools.
The PIR evaluates business schools based on how they are living up to their stated commitments to sustainability, ethics and societal impact. Once again, the UB School of Management has been rated a Level 4 “Transforming” school for demonstrating a positive impact culture, embedded in governance and systems, with visible results in many impact dimensions.
To participate in the PIR, the school defined its key social impact initiative as “helping nonprofits, small businesses and startups.” This focal point aligns with numerous activities in the school, including the Jordan A. Daniels Nonprofit Board Fellowship, the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership’s Emerging Entrepreneurs program, the Projects Clinic, the Nonprofit Technology Consulting class, the AI Experience at UB for local teenagers, the Social Impact Fellows program and others.
A dedicated team of students spearheaded the survey process, working closely with faculty, student clubs and classes to gather a robust response. Their efforts ensured that the school’s diverse opportunities for students to engage with and impact the community were well represented in the PIR evaluation.
“This rating tells us that what our students are learning is making a difference in their lives and that our programs are empowering businesses and organizations,” says Mary Ann Rogers, clinical associate professor of organization and human resources, and assistant dean for diversity and inclusion in the School of Management. “Whether it’s serving on a nonprofit board or working side-by-side with a local entrepreneur, our students are building the skills to become the principled, inclusive leaders of tomorrow.”
The UB School of Management is recognized for its emphasis on real-world learning, community and impact, and the global perspective of its faculty, students and alumni. In addition, the school has been ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek, Entrepreneur, Financial Times, Forbes and U.S. News & World Report for the quality of its programs and the return on investment it provides its graduates.
