In an effort to keep the university community informed about the progress made by the President's Advisory Council on Race, updates and accomplishments have been posted here. 

Progress

Summer 2022

On June 1, the Implementation Committee released their final report—a pathway to supporting and amplifying equity in UB's research, teaching, education and engagement with the broader region. 

Summer 2021

To guide the university's implementation efforts of the President's Advisory Council on Race's recommendations, a steering committee and seven subcommittees were formed and charged with:

  • reviewing and discussing the recommendations to determine how best to implement them,
  • developing a timeline for the implementation process, and
  • establishing specific quantitative and/or qualitative milestones for anticipated progress.

March 2021

The President's Advisory Council on Race held a Community Dialogue on Monday, March 22, 2021.

  • During this university-wide forum, the President’s Advisory Council on Race offered recommendations to strengthen a culture at UB that thrives on ideals of equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice.

December 2020

President Tripathi updated the university community on the work of the President's Advisory Council on Race and their recommendations. 

September 2020

The President's Advisory Council on Race shared their preliminary recommendations with President Tripathi and Provost Weber.

July 2020

The President's Advisory Council on Race endorsed:

  • removing Millard Fillmore's name from the academic center located in the Ellicott Complex
  • renaming Putnam Way "Mary Talbert Way" in honor of the civil rights pioneer who dedicated herself to improving the lives and status of African Americans and women

June 2020

The President's Advisory Council on Race was formed to address issues of race, culture and higher education to guide and shape the university's programs, policies, activities and traditions.
