Dear Members of the UB Community,
As President Tripathi recently shared, he will be stepping down as president of the University at Buffalo in July 2026. His remarkable leadership has positioned UB for continued success, and the search for our next president will be among the most important endeavors our university undertakes over the course of this academic year.
Today, I am launching the international search for UB’s next president. As chair of the UB Council, I am honored to serve as chair of the Presidential Search Committee. It is a privilege to lead this effort on behalf of our university community.
In accordance with SUNY guidelines, the search committee will be composed of a diverse group of stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, alumni and community representatives.
Very soon, faculty will receive a message from the Faculty Senate chair and staff will receive a message from the Professional Staff Senate chair inviting nominations for the faculty and staff positions on the committee. As you consider nominating yourself or a colleague, please familiarize yourself with the search process. This will be important in ensuring an outstanding search process.
Undergraduate student and graduate student representation on the committee will include elected members of our student organizations.
Throughout the search process, we will maintain a dedicated search website, which will serve as the primary source for information and updates as the search progresses. On this website, you will also find an overview of the search process and timeline.
In the coming weeks, we will also host a series of listening sessions to hear directly from you about the qualities and qualifications you hope to see in UB’s next president. Your input will be invaluable as we develop the leadership profile and will provide a guidepost for the committee’s work. I encourage all members of our community to participate in these conversations.
Thank you in advance for your engagement in this important university process.
Sincerely,
Jerry Jacobs Jr.
Chair, Presidential Search Committee
Chair, UB Council
