Presidential Search Process

The search for UB’s next president has been launched by Jerry Jacobs Jr., Chair of the UB Council, in accordance with SUNY guidelines. Guided by SUNY policies and best practices, the process will be overseen by the UB Council and the Presidential Search Committee, with support from a national search firm. While the search itself is highly confidential, the university community will be kept informed of process milestones as the search progresses. Below is an overview of the search timeline and key stages.

• Faculty Senate Chair will invite nominations for faculty representatives to serve on the search committee.

• Professional Staff Senate Chair will invite nominations for staff representatives to serve on the search committee.

• Presidential Search Committee Chair announces members of the search committee and the search firm that will assist the committee.

• Search Committee holds its first organizational meeting.
• SUNY Chancellor John King delivers the formal charge.

• Search Committee will host open campus listening sessions (North Campus, South Campus, Downtown Campus, and virtual) to provide an opportunity for faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members to share their input.
• Those who are unable to participate in an in-person forum are welcome to provide input via this survey.

• Presidential positional profile and advertisements will be published as part of the recruitment of potential candidates.
• Presidential position profile will be available here.

• Recruitment period to build a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates.

• Search Committee confidentially reviews applicants and conducts interviews.
• At the conclusion of this process, the search committee recommends a group of finalists to the UB Council for their review.
• The UB Council recommends finalists to the SUNY Chancellor.
