Experiential Learning Award

CPMC is pleased to offer the Cora P. Maloney Experiential Learning Award to undergraduate students participating in the programs offered through CPMC. This $500 award will be distributed for the academic year as well as for summer and winter sessions.

Awards are granted to students who have already applied to study abroad programs or other experiential learning experiences (e.g., Alternative Spring Break, SLIDE). The CPMC staff will review award applications, and decisions will be sent out via email.

Eligibility Requirements

  •  Applicants must be matriculated University at Buffalo students, enrolled full-time and in good standing in one of the following Cora P. Maloney Center (CPMC) programs: ACE, Acker, CSTEP,  EOP, McNair or SSS.
  • Applicants must have already applied to a study abroad program or another experiential learning program.
  • Previous recipients of the Cora P. Maloney Experiential Learning Award may not reapply.

Selection Criteria

  • If studying abroad is the applicant’s choice of experiential learning, preference is given to students participating in a University at Buffalo or other SUNY-sponsored program. Those enrolling in programs sponsored by other universities may also apply.
  • Students who have never studied or traveled abroad are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to students who intend to return to UB for at least one semester following the experiential learning experience.
  • Recipients must agree to assist in promoting experiential learning in the Cora P. Maloney Center following their return to campus.

Application Materials

Complete and submit your CPMC Experiential Learning Award Application.

Applications are due on the following dates:
  • Fall/summer: March 14
  • Spring/winter:  October 31 (extended deadline)

Note: If either of those dates falls on a Saturday or Sunday, please turn it in the following Monday.

The following application materials are required:

  • Application form. Our application is entirely online for your convenience.
  • Study abroad or experiential learning brochure/documentation.
  • Typed responses for three essay questions, found in Part 3 of the application.
  • Resume, found in Part 4 of the application.
  • A list of all CPMC-related experiences (dates and type) is found in Part 4 of the application.
  • One academic letter of recommendation must be dropped off at 5 Norton Hall (cannot be obtained from CPMC staff).

Please note: All awards received by a student must be reported to the Office of Financial Aid. You will be notified if this award impacts your eligibility for other types of financial assistance. In most cases, your financial aid eligibility will remain unchanged due to the expenses associated with your research.

CPMC staff will review all applications and make award decisions. The decisions of the CPMC staff are final and not subject to appeal.
