Designing accessible digital materials is one of the simplest ways to support every learner in your course. CATT provides opportunities for instructors to learn core digital accessibility practices, ask questions, and get hands-on help from our team.
This self-enroll UB Learns resource helps faculty take practical, manageable steps toward improving the accessibility of digital course materials using AI tools they already have access to. Designed for real teaching environments with limited time, it focuses on improving Word documents, PowerPoints, PDFs, videos and other course content in ways that align with inclusive teaching practices and evolving compliance expectations.
Recent updates include a new section on iteration as a strategy for improving AI outputs, offering a structured approach to reviewing, refining and validating responses to better align with instructional and accessibility goals. The PDF section has also been enhanced with clearer decision pathways, targeted prompt options and practical validation guidance to support a more efficient move from source materials to accessible, instructionally effective content.
You can move through the resource at your own pace and apply strategies immediately in your courses. The content will continue to evolve as guidance and tools change.
Explore how digital accessibility supports inclusive teaching at UB as the campus prepares for ADA Title II regulation changes taking effect in April 2027. This session highlights practical strategies, grounded in Universal Design for Learning, and introduces accessibility tools in UB Learns and Microsoft Office to help faculty create clearer, more usable course materials.
This presentation introduces approaches for improving the accessibility of PDFs generated with LaTeX. It explains how document structure and tagging enable screen readers to navigate content and how these elements relate to ADA Title II digital accessibility requirements and WCAG standards. The presentation demonstrates how LaTeX tagging tools can improve accessibility scores in UB Learns and highlights common issues such as missing alt text, table headers and document metadata. It also outlines practical steps for moving LaTeX-generated documents toward PDF/UA 1.7 compliance ahead of the April 26, 2027 deadline.
