J. Warren Perry Endowed Scholarship Fund

J. Warren Perry, founding dean of the School of Health Related Professions and a national figure in the field of allied health.

Honoring the first dean of the School of Health Related Professions, the J. Warren Perry Scholarship is awarded to students in the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences or Rehabilitation Science.

Established in 1990 by Dr. J. Warren Perry and Dr. Charles D. Perry, this fund supports an annual scholarship for the benefit of upperclassmen or graduate students pursuing a degree program in the School of Public Health and Health Professions (formerly the School of Health Related Professions).

Scholarship candidates are evaluated on the basis of academic achievement and professional potential, as well as their ability to make a contribution to one of the health professions.

The Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences combines exercise science (the scientific study of how human movement influences health, fitness, performance and disease prevention) and nutrition science (exploring the complex relationship between the body, nutrients and health) to offer a broad understanding of the human body, including physiological, biomechanical and nutritional factors. Graduates work in a variety of industries including fitness, athletics, rehabilitation and other healthcare related areas, hospitality and the government.

The Department of Rehabilitation Science offers accredited professional programs in occupational therapy and physical therapy which have been recognized as among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of graduate schools. The field of rehabilitation science encompasses several disciplines—including occupational therapy and physical therapy—devoted to optimizing the quality of life for people whose functional capabilities are limited due to injury, disease, age or disability.
