UB will soon have a field house. Construction on the Murchie Family Fieldhouse—the Murchie family made the lead gift toward the $18 million project—started this fall and is slated to be finished in spring 2019. Here are a few fun facts about the indoor practice facility, which will help UB be more competitive with its MAC peers.
With more than 4 million cubic feet of indoor space, the Murchie Family Fieldhouse will provide ample room for teams from football to cross-country to train, regardless of the weather.
The facility will be capable of hosting nonathletic gatherings of more than 4,000 people, and will be equipped with spaces for expanded student recreation programming and intramurals.
Building the structure will require more than 6,000 tons of foundation concrete, 80 tons of steel reinforcing bars and more than 9,000 tons of structural steel.
Zero—that’s how much state funding is being used for the project, which is being financed through football revenue and philanthropic gifts. To donate, visit www. buffalo.edu/giving.
