Associate vice provost for faculty development and director of the Office of Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation at UB, Carol Van Zile-Tamsen provides strategic leadership for curriculum development, instructional innovation, learning technologies, student learning assessment and academic program review. 

A nationally respected leader in higher education assessment and accreditation, she has played a pivotal role in advancing academic excellence and student success across the university. She co-chaired UB’s successful Middle States reaccreditation efforts in 2014 and 2024 and led its transition from the Blackboard learning management system to Brightspace, initiatives that have strengthened teaching, learning and institutional effectiveness across the campus.

 A recipient of the 2024 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, she is also a peer reviewer for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and a former co-chair of the SUNY Council on Assessment. As a member of the graduate faculty within the Graduate School of Education, she continues to serve on dissertation committees.
