About MATLAB

MATLAB: The TAH Student License allows students to install MathWorks software on their personally-owned computers.

Use MATLAB, a high level technical computing language and interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualization, data analysis and numeric computation.

Download the Installer

  1. Go to Mathworks and create a MathWorks Account using your @buffalo.edu email address.
  2. Go to the License Center.
  3. Click Associate License in the upper right hand corner.
  4. When prompted, enter 89362-04098-69973-74182-95517
  5. A green acceptance box will appear. Click Download your products now.
  6. Click the R2016a button.
  7. Choose your installer: Linux 64-bit, Mac OS X 64-bit or Windows 64-bit.
  8. Save File.

Install and Activate

  1. Locate the installer you downloaded in a file browser. It should be located in the default download location, unless you specified another location. The name of the installer file is:
    • Windows: matlab_<release>_win64.exe (where <release> represents the release number)
    • Mac OS X: matlab_<release>_maci64.zip (where <release> represents the release number)
    • Linux: matlab_<release>_glnxa64.zip (where <release> represents the release number)
  2. Start the installer:
    • Windows: Double-click the installer file you downloaded in the previous step.
    • Mac OS X: Double-click the installer file you downloaded in the previous step. This action extracts the files and creates another folder called matlab_<release>_maci64, where <release> represents the release number. Inside this folder, double-click InstallForMacOSX to start the installer.
    • Linux: Double-click the installer file you downloaded in the previous step.
  3. In the MathWorks installer, select Log in with a MathWorks Account and follow the online instructions. You must log in with your @buffalo.edu email address.
  4. When prompted, select the license you want to use.
  5. Select the products you want to download and install.
  6. After downloading and installing your products, keep the Activate MATLAB checkbox selected and click Next.
  7. When asked to provide a user name, verify that the displayed user name is correct. Continue with the process until activation is complete.
