Applies To: UB Students in residence halls and campus apartments

Last Updated: August 18, 2017

Do you need a router?

A router is needed if you’re connecting more than one device at a time to wired ResNet. Before using your router, it must be secured with a password to prevent other residents from using the device and its wireless capability should be turned off.

1. Connect a cat-5, 5e, 6 or 6e Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack, located on the bottom of the Aruba box on the wall near the floor, or the Ethernet jack in the wall.

2. Are you using a router?

  • Yes: Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to your router and connect the computer to the router. Any devices connected directly to the router do not need to be registered.
  • No: Plug the other end of the cable into your computer. (If your device does not have an Ethernet jack, you may be able to purchase a USB-to-Ethernet adapter).

3. Turn your computer on and open a Web browser and go to a non-UB page such as amazon.com.

4. You should be presented with the registration screen. Click Register This Device.

5. Enter your UBITName and password and click Log In.

6. Enter:

  • a name for your device
  • MAC Address

7. Click Create Device.
