Registering Your Device

Important:

Chromecast may be able to run, but is not guaranteed.

Devices must be registered to connect to UB's network. The connection will not be encrypted and it requires a UBITName and password or guest account. In UB Wi-Fi Boost and UB ResNet Boost areas, registration is through the UB My Devices Portal.

1. Connect an already-registered computer (NOT the media or gaming device) to the Internet using:

  • Wi-Fi (It should automatically connect to eduroam)

or

  • A wired UB ResNet Boost connection using a cat-5, 5e, 6 or 6e Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack, located on the bottom of the Aruba box on the wall near the floor, or the Ethernet jack in the wall.

2. Open your computer's Web browser and go to the UB My Devices Portal

3. Enter your UBITName and password and click Log In.

4. Click Manage and Create Devices.

5. Click Create.

6. Click Create again.

7. Enter the following:

  • Give your device a description that allows you to identify it, e.g. Jane Doe's Chromecast).
  • Enter the MAC address of your device. (This can be found in your device's Settings or on the packaging. Some devices, such as Apple TV, label the MAC address as the Ethernet ID (use for ResNet) or Wireless ID (use if device is connected to Wi-Fi).
  • For Apple TV, Chromecast and printers, be sure to select Enable AirGroup.

8. Clck Create Device. Your smart TV, gaming device or other media device is now registered and can connect to the Internet using the UB Connect network.

Sharing Your Registered Device with Others

You are able to share access to your registered devices, such as a printer or your Apple TV, with others, limiting access by registering their UBITNames to your device registration:

  1. After registering a device (see above), select a device, TV or streaming player from the list of registered devices and players at the bottom of the screen and click Edit.
  2. Check Enable AirGroup.
  3. Enter the UBITNames of the people you want to share a device with (separated by commas).
  4. Click Update Device.

Editing or Removing Devices from Registration

  1. In either a UB ResNet Boost or UB Wi-Fi Boost area, using a registered computer, open a Web browser and go to the UB My Devices Portal.
  2. Enter your UBITName and password and click Log In.
  3. Click Manage and Create Devices.
  4. Select a device or player from the list of registered devices and players at the bottom of the screen and click:
    • Edit to modify its registration information.
    • Delete to remove a device from registraiton.
