You can’t fit your entire study group in your room, so where can you meet? Reserving a conveniently located collaborative learning space is only a few clicks away.

Marissa Malone (UB Student, Class of 2015) has a dream of traveling to all seven continents, and she’s already visited four. When not globetrotting, Marissa studies Communication, Spanish, and Management at UB while working for both UBIT and Career Services.

Located on both North and South Campus, there are twenty study rooms to choose from, each outfitted with a colorful personality and comfortable, reconfigurable furniture to create an ideal study environment.  

This may be the first you’ve heard about collaborative learning spaces, but some students have taken full advantage of them. One student, who preferred to be anonymous, reports, “I've used them for academic study sessions, group assignments and for extra-curricular meetings that required privacy and a whiteboard.”

Pick a Room…Any Room

While reserving a room is easy, the challenging part is deciding which collaborative learning space best fits your needs.

According to another anonymous student, “The best space for my needs is Lockwood 320: it’s big, has a whiteboard and lots of outlets. Sometimes you can even stay in there all day.”

The group study rooms located in the Health Sciences Library on South Campus provide seating for an average of 4-6 people and include video playback equipment and a VHS/DVD combo TV.

On North Campus, you’ll find the group study rooms in the Silverman Library averaging maximum capacity of 2-6 people, where as in Lockwood Library, rooms allow for 2-8 people and have the benefit of display panels to connect to laptops and tablets.

We’ve Got the Power

Finding a study spot on campus with ample electrical power can be no small feat. Collaborative learning spaces not only provide power outlets, but offer reliable access to Wi-Fi as well.

Having space to spread your materials and have readily accessible printing from the nearby printing station is a huge benefit.

If you intend to use the whiteboard, be sure to bring your own (erasable) markers.
