An article in the New York Times features Helen "Nellie" Drew about how the Houston Texans of the NFL are set to hire David Culley, as the team's first-ever Black head coach. Out of six head coach openings, Culley was one of two people of color to be hired as head coaches. Despite a league-wide initiative by the NFL’s to hire coaches of color, the results have fallen short. “They are trying, but they are struggling,” said Drew. “The results to date have not been impressive, especially given the number of people of color who play in the league.”
