The Washington Post published an article authored by Carole Emberton, about the deep roots of disdain for Black political leaders in the U.S. Emberton recounts efforts to discredit Black Americans, from the 18th century to present times. “The legacy of their Reconstruction-era campaigns continues to cast a dark shadow over this nation, shaping the way White Americans view Black protest and political action, as well as how the state and private citizens police those actions,” she wrote.
