A Washington Post story quotes James Campbell about how the politics of race are shifting in the U.S. and what will come of the gathering call for action. Until the mid-1960s, Republicans were more liberal on race and conservative on economics, and the Democrats the reverse. The staggered realignment from the mid-1960s to mid-1990s reconfigured the parties and the issues so that Republicans were more conservative on all issues, including racial issues, and Democrats more liberal on all issues.”
