An article in The Washington Post about how people’s bodies respond to eating sugar interviews Jennifer Temple, associate professor of exercise and nutrition sciences and director of the Nutrition and Health Research Laboratory in the UB School of Public Health and Health Professions, who conducted research to test whether eating sugary treats causes more eating of sugary treats. “Not everybody, but 40 percent of people who are already overweight or obese, when they’ve eaten a favorite treat every day . . . will work three times harder for that same treat” than when they hadn’t eaten one every day for a week, she said.
