Free SUNY tuition plan could alter New York's higher-ed landscape

A front-page article in the Buffalo News about reaction to the  Excelsior Scholarship, New York State’s tuition-free scholarship program for students from families earning less than $100,000 per year attending SUNY colleges and universities, quotes UB President Satish K. Tripathi. “From what we understand so far, we are pleased to see the state continue its commitment to public higher education – especially with the passage of the Excelsior Scholarship program,” he said. The article notes the budget also will allow SUNY campuses to raise tuition by $200 per year over the next five years for students whose families are above the $100,000 threshold.
