An article in USA Today about EMILY’s List, a major national force for grooming female Democratic candidates, and its efforts to begin the most aggressive recruiting campaign in its 32 year history interviews Kari Winter, professor of transnational studies and director of UB’s Gender Institute, who said one major assumption underlining Hillary Clinton’s candidacy was that her election would motivate women to put themselves up for elections at all levels of government, but in reality, Trump’s victory is a greater motivator. “Trump has provided a really powerful, galvanizing force for political engagement among people who thought they had the luxury to being disengaged,” she said. The article also appeared in news outlets that include the Cincinnati Enquirer, Arizona Republic, Detroit Free Press and Guam’s Pacific Daily News.
