Explosion site may solve New Year's Eve mystery

An article in the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin about a large explosion in Tioga County on New Year’s Eve that sent social media into a frenzy of speculation interviews Tracy Gregg, associate professor of geology, who said it was unlikely that it was caused by a meteorite. "If it's big enough to make a sound it's going to be big enough to make a big streak in the sky," she said. "It would be very, very strange to get a sound without a big streak."
