An article on Vox about the makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court, which has not included a former criminal defense lawyer in 25 years, quotes Anthony O’Rourke, associate professor of law, who looked at the backgrounds of Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Samuel Alito, and said that thanks to a “healthier appreciation of, let’s say, the diversity of professionalism” among police and prosecutors in the field, Sotomayor is arguably the most pro-defendant justice on the current Court.
