An opinion piece on CNN by Arun Vishwanath, associate professor of communication, calls Apple disingenuous for declining to create a backdoor into the company’s technology that could allow the government – and hackers – to intrude on individuals’ privacy in the future, and suggests that there is more that Apple and other technology companies can and need to do to protect users from hacks that come in through their app stores. “It’s one thing for Apple to take a stance against government intrusions into our privacy, but it is another to do something to better protect our data from hackers,” he writes. The article appeared on news outlets that include WCTI-TV in North Carolina, KSPR-TV in Missouri and KSLF-TV in Montana.
