Study suggests link between gum disease, breast cancer risk

NBC affiliates nationwide reported on a UB study that finds that gum disease may increase breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women, especially those who smoke. “These findings are useful in providing new insight into what causes breast cancer,” says Jo Freudenheim, the paper’s lead author and interim chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health in the School of Public Health and Health Professions. Articles also appeared in U.S. News & World Report, UPI, Futurity, WebMD and numerous other outlets.
