Researchers look at impact of Thursday games on NFL schedule

An article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on NFL scheduling reports that UB engineers, inspired by the Buffalo Bills’ schedules, studied the best way to space out bye weeks and Thursday games. The article quotes Murat Kurt, assistant professor of industrial systems and engineering. “I noticed quirks in the schedule, saw imbalances, especially with the Thursday night games. Owners, coaches and players all complain about having to play the Thursday night games, but they do it because of the millions of dollars it generates from television,” Kurt said. Subsequent articles appeared on NBC Sports, The Washington Post, The Sporting News and The Erie Times News.
