Texas defends a woman's right to take her placenta home

NPR’s All Things Considered show interviews UB psychology faculty member Mark Kristal in a story titled, “Texas Defends A Woman's Right To Take Her Placenta Home.” Kristal, who has studied placenta-eating among animals for decades, provided expert commentary on how mammalian placental mothers ingest afterbirth; the scientific reasons for this behavior; and why humans have evolved away from it. “It’s not a routine human behavior,” Kristal told NPR. The story aired on stations across the country.
