An article in the Boston Globe about lessons learned from a hack of the Associated Press’ Twitter feed, which caused a brief stock market crash, quotes Tero Karppi, assistant professor of media study. “Twitter is analyzed by algorithms, and financial markets are analyzed by algorithms,” he said. “When these two fields connect over false information or a malicious tweet it can cause surprising consequences.”
