A Q&A on the front page of the business section in Sunday’s Buffalo News interviews Venkat Krovi, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, who was instrumental in bringing the annual conference of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to Buffalo. Krovi serves as general chair for the conference, which will be held in August and is expected to attract 1,500 to 2,000 people from around the world, and will for the first time offer a career fair and engineering expo in an effort to integrate industry professionals with academics and students. An additional article reports the conference, jointly hosted by UB, will showcase exhibits and presentations that cover some of the hottest topics in manufacturing, including self-driving cars, “Avatar”-like vertical lift aircraft and 3-D printing.
