An article in National Geographic about a team of researchers who used mitochondrial DNA to analyze snippets of hair that people claimed came from the Abominable Snowman, Yeti, Bigfoot and similar creatures quotes Charlotte Lindqvist, assistant professor of biological sciences. “It is important to bear in mind that the evidence is based on a short fragment” of a gene seen in other lineages that’s not necessarily unique to that species, she said.
