On the announcement of actor James Gandolfini’s death, the Marketplace interviewed UB professor emerita and pop culture critic Elayne Rapping about the legacy of Gandolfini as the character Tony Soprano. Rapping was quoted as saying, “It was the very first story of a really bad guy, with sad eyes, that we couldn’t help root for.”
