An article in the Los Angeles Times reports on a study by Jaye Derrick, research scientist in UB's Research Institute on Addictions, that found that watching reruns help to replenish an individual's powers of self-control so they can tackle the challenges ahead. "Media use can have unexpected psychological benefits," she said. "Television, movies and books can be more than leisure activities; in some cases, they fulfill needs, like restoring self-control." The research received international coverage, with articles also appearing on The Atlantic Wire.
