The New York Times featured UB research on the evolutionary history of polar bears

A New York Times article featured research led by UB assistant professor of biological sciences Charlotte Lindqvist, PhD, and quoted her about a study that analyzed the whole genomes of polar bears to uncover new information about the species' age and evolution. Lindqvist and an international research team found that polar bear numbers waxed and waned with climate change, and that the animals may have interbred with brown bears since becoming a distinct species millions of years ago.
