An article distributed by the Associated Press looks at "Go, Tell Michelle: African American Women Write to the New First Lady," a collection of letters compiled by Barbara Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram, co-founders of UB's Uncrowned Queens Institute for Research and Education on Women.

"Here you have a black woman who is highly educated, who is very comfortable in who she is, who exudes self confidence, just represents African-American women at our best," said Nevergold. "So the idea that she is going to portray an image of black women that will stand to offset the negative stereotypes is something that women really expressed."

The article appeared in hundreds of news outlets throughout the U.S., including the Orlando Sentinel, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune and England's Guardian newspaper.
