An article in the Jan. 22 issue of Newsweek magazine on a proposal to require students at Harvard to do coursework in an area called "Reason and Faith" quotes Elaine Howard Ecklund, assistant professor of sociology, who in 2006 conducted a study of religious beliefs of science professors at elite universities and found many are infuriated by what they see as a widespread erosion of belief in proven scientific theories. "Some of the faculty I talked to wanted to suppress discussion of religion in the classroom," she said. Go to article.
