An article distributed by the Associated Press reports on UB research that showed that unbelted back-seat passengers are a threat to the driver seated in front of them in head-on car crashes and quotes James Mayrose, adjunct assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. "It doesn't matter if it's an adult-sized person seated behind you, a small child or even if you have packages or luggage placed in the seat behind you," he said. "If they are not belted or safely secured, they can inflict fatal injuries to a driver." The article appeared in news outlets that include the Albany Times Union, CBS Radio, Newsday and Staten Island Advance. Go to article.
