An article in Black Press USA on the scarcity of African-American mathematicians and efforts people in the field are making to increase their numbers reports Scott Williams, professor of mathematics, is a founding member of the National Association of Mathematicians. "When I started out," he said, "I didn't know anybody (Black) in mathematics. It was a while before I got to learn of a few people. So I think organizations like this are phenomenal.
