BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo was ranked No. 19 in Forbes’ America’s Best Large Employers 2021, an annual ranking of the most-liked companies by United States employees.

UB was the sixth highest-ranked university on the list, and the top-ranked large employer in New York State.

Other institutes of higher learning ranked among the top 25 in Forbes list include The University of Alabama, Birmingham (No. 1), Yale University (No. 5), University of Maryland, Baltimore (No. 13), University of Arizona (No. 16), University of Michigan (No. 17), Duke University (No. 23) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (No. 24).

The largest university in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, UB employs roughly 6,000 faculty and staff across three campuses.

“The University at Buffalo strives to create an inclusive and equitable environment where faculty and staff can pursue the university’s mission of groundbreaking research, transformative education experiences and deeply engaged service,” said Laura Hubbard, UB vice president for finance and administration.

To create the rankings, Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to compile lists of the top large and midsize employers in the nation. Large employers were categorized as having more than 5,000 U.S. employees.

Statista anonymously surveyed 38,000 people working for U.S. businesses with at least 1,000 employees. The respondents were asked to rate how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others, to nominate organizations other than their own, and to identify companies they would not recommend to others.
