UB to stage simulated full-scale ‘active shooter’ exercise

Release Date: August 12, 2016

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo will hold a full-scale, “active shooter” training exercise from 6-11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, in and around Clemens Hall on the UB North Campus.

The University Police Department (UPD), in collaboration with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, will conduct the full-scale exercise to ensure coordinated, timely and effective response and recovery in the event of an “active shooter” emergency. Additional UB participants will include Emergency Management, Student Affairs, University Communications and the College of Arts and Sciences.

There will be numerous law enforcement, fire and emergency service personnel participating in the exercise. In order to avoid any confusion, the public and UB community are being notified of the drill ahead of time.

Outside agencies participating in the exercise will include Amherst Police, Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo FBI Office, Getzville Fire Department, Twin City Ambulance and Erie County Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART).

Because of the sensitive nature of the activities, media will not be permitted during this law enforcement training exercise.

The exercise is also closed to the campus community and the general public.
