BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo Police today arrested a Cheektowaga man and charged him with displaying what appeared to be a handgun earlier this week in Clark Hall on the university’s South Campus.

UB police arrested Damon Erving, 23, of Windwood Avenue in Cheektowaga, and charged him with second-degree menacing for displaying what police now believe was a BB gun around 3 p.m. Monday in the gymnasium in Clark Hall. The man was not a student at UB or affiliated with the university, according to police.

Erving, who police said was cooperating with the investigation, faces a menacing charge, a class A misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds, which is a violation. Charging the suspect was Investigator Wayne Colton.

Erving is accused with pulling out the weapon during an argument in a pick-up basketball game in the gym. No shots were fired and no one was injured, UB police said. The suspect has been banned from any UB campus.
