U.S. Sen. Gillibrand to Give UB Law School Commencement Speech

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- U.S. Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand will be the keynote speaker at this year's University at Buffalo Law School commencement ceremony at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in the Center for the Arts on UB's North Campus. Gillibrand will address 233 graduating law students during the Law School commencement.

This year's Law School graduation ceremony will be led by UB President Satish K. Tripathi and UB Law School Dean Makau W. Mutua. The Law School will also award its Dean's Medal to the Hon. Hugh B. Scott, magistrate judge, U.S. District Court, Western District of New York, and the Ken Joyce Excellence in Teaching Award to the Hon. Kevin M. Dillon, justice, Supreme Court, Erie County.

Gillibrand was sworn in as United States Senator from New York in January 2009, filling the seat of the current Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton. In November 2010, she won election to the seat with 63 percent of the vote. Prior to her service in the Senate, Gillibrand served in the United States House of Representatives, representing New York's 20th Congressional District, which spans 10 counties in upstate New York.
