Media Advisory: Exceptional Students and their Research to be Showcased at Celebration of Academic Excellence

The academic achievements and research of UB's most talented undergraduate and graduate students will be showcased at the university's annual Celebration of Student Academic Excellence, to be held Wednesday, April 6 in the Center for the Arts on the UB North Campus.

As part of the celebration, more than 187 students will present 118 undergraduate projects in the Center for the Arts atrium.

Dozens of colorful posters of student projects will be displayed beginning at 1 p.m., and several students will be available to discuss their work.

The projects, which represent student work from all academic disciplines and majors, will include:

- The hyperreality of reality television

- The culture of athleticism and its influence on athletes' perception of pain

- An analysis of U.S. documentary photographs between 1935 and 1945

- The effects of caffeine on thinking and exercise

- The effect of social networking sites on voter turnout among youth

- Self-esteem, stability and romantic relationships

- Poor interpersonal skills and the connection to bullying

- A global look at skin bleaching and "colorism" -- a U.S. epidemic

- Interventions for teenage drivers with ADHD

- A study of ethnic groups that have chosen to migrate to Buffalo

A formal ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Drama Theater, where students will be honored with academic awards, scholarships and fellowships. A reception will follow the ceremony.
