UB Management Students Receive Commencement Awards

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sixteen graduates of the University at Buffalo School of Management received awards during the school's commencement ceremonies on May 7.

The University at Buffalo is a premier research-intensive public university, a flagship institution in the State University of New York system that is its largest and most comprehensive campus. In addition, the school's part-time MBA program and its undergraduate business program have earned recognition in BusinessWeek.

The graduates and the awards they received are:

• Ana C. Coughlin of Rochester, the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key, presented to the full-time undergraduate student who compiles the highest management grade point average of all eligible graduating students.

• Wen Li of Amherst, the Charles H. Diefendorf Award in Finance, presented to the student who has made the greatest contribution to the finance discipline.

• Vijay Ganesh Hariharan of Bellevue, Wash., the Paul E. Green Award in Marketing, presented to the School of Management doctoral student exemplifying excellence in the area of marketing research.

• Justin C. Voty of Sugar Grove, Pa., the Sidney N. Kahn Memorial Award for Excellence in Sales and Marketing, presented to the MBA student who has made the greatest contribution to the field of sales and marketing. Voty also received the Dr. Jerry and Mrs. Dina Wind Award to Promote International Understanding, to the student born in the United States who contributes to promoting international understanding among MBA students.

• Jeffrey R. Bassen of Babylon, Muhammad Zulkarnain Bin Jainula Abutheen of Amherst and Rachel R. Huff of Clifton Park received the Undergraduate Student Achievement Award, presented to the undergraduate students who have demonstrated scholastic excellence and have also rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.

• Shasha Tao of Buffalo, the Master of Science Student Achievement Award, presented to the MS student who has demonstrated scholastic excellence and has also rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.

• Samantha M. Roth of Rochester, the MBA Student Achievement Award, presented to the MBA student who has demonstrated scholastic excellence and has also rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.

• Ye Du of College Station, Texas, the PhD Student Achievement Award, presented to the PhD student who has demonstrated scholastic excellence and has also rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and the university.

• Sara N. Grossberg of Williamsville, the Adriana Ilyse Thaler Memorial Senior Award in Marketing, presented to the senior marketing student who best demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, marketing professionalism and personal motivation.

• Margarite L. Halaris of Plainview and Dimitri Rouskas of Bethpage, the University at Buffalo Accounting Association Michael S. Dockery Memorial Senior Award, presented to the senior accounting students who have contributed in a superior way to the Institute of Management Accountants, the accounting profession, fellow students and the School of Management.

• Yi-Ling Wang of Buffalo, the Dr. Marcel and Mrs. Kathryn Vinokur Award to Promote Global Understanding, presented to the graduating student born outside of North America who contributes to promoting global understanding among MBA students.

• Kuo Siong Tan of Amherst, the Wall Street Journal Award for Academic Excellence by an MBA Student, presented to the full-time MBA student who compiles the highest grade point average of all eligible graduating students.

• Christopher P. Maugans of Tonawanda, the William H. Wendel Memorial Award for Student Excellence in Human Resources Management, presented to the graduating student who has made the greatest contribution to the field of human resources management.
