Media advisory: New Joint Patrols Begin Tonight in University Heights

Officers from the Buffalo Police Department, University at Buffalo and Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority will gather tonight before beginning their first night of new joint patrols in University Heights.

Where and When: 7:30 p.m. today (August 27, 2009) in the Sherman parking lot, off Bailey Avenue, on UB's South Campus in Buffalo.

The officers and Dennis Black, UB vice president of student affairs, will be available to discuss the goals of the collaborative effort to continue improving safety and quality of life in the neighborhood bordering UB's South Campus.

The patrols will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. UB purchased bikes and Segways for the patrols, as well as two new security cameras installed in the University Heights neighborhood. Over the past two years, UB has purchased a total of five cameras for the Buffalo Police Department and has invested more than $200,000 in the safety initiatives.
