BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo will hold a remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday, February 17, 2009) in the Student Union Theatre on the UB North (Amherst) Campus in honor of the victims of the crash of Continental Flight 3407, several of whom were alumni of UB or were connected to UB in other ways.

The service, organized by Student Affairs, will include welcoming remarks by UB President John B. Simpson, and readings will be presented by members of UB's Campus Ministry and UB students. Gerald Schoenle, chief of University Police, will speak on behalf of first responders; UB Police assisted Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority police and other police departments in escorting a bus carrying family members of crash victims from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport to a Red Cross aid center that had been established in the Cheektowaga Senior Center, where family members were taken for debriefing and counseling.

In addition, a quartet from the UB Department of Music and UB's a cappella student singing groups, the Buffalo Chips and the Royal Pitches, will perform.
